Five Goals Every OFW Must Have

Working overseas is indeed challenging and at some point can be overwhelming. The reality that you are suddenly in a new country and have to cope with an entirely different culture, learn a foreign language, or adjust to a doubly hectic work schedule is a quick jolt.

Nevertheless, you should not lose focus and just can keep on heading on the right track. Being an OFW is an exciting phase that opens doors to a wide range of opportunities that you must take advantage of. It is also a great time to set up some goals.

Retire early.   Working abroad may be a dream come true and retirement is the last thing on your mind. However, it is a wise move to aim towards building your retirement fund early on. Keep in mind that the earlier you start, the better. Start thinking of a livelihood you can upon retirement, where you will settle, and the lifestyle that you want

Grow your wealth.   Most OFWs earn dollars which has a higher value than our peso so it is the best time to invest. You may want to acquire properties, open a savings account or put money in other funds that offer higher interest rates. Just make sure that you review every investment and never fall prey to scams.

Maintain strong bond with family members.  All your hard work will be wasted if you forget to stay connected to your loved ones in the Philippines. Overseas workers are luckier these days with cheaper and faster ways of communication so strive to be faith faithful and avoid temptation. Always

Uplift the reputation of Filipinos around the world. In many ways, you work as a flag bearer of the Filipino workforce so avoid mediocrity and always aim for excellence.

Enjoy it to the fullest.  Since your stint overseas is likely temporary, you must work hard but do not forget to have fun! It is like you are in a paid vacation so take advantage of your off days to visit scenic sites or try local dishes. Just always be respectful and mindful of  the country’s do’s and don’ts to avoid trouble.
